Care guide
Pre-care & aftercare.
How to prepare for your treatment and care for your skin afterwards.
Before Your Appointment
- Keep the area clean and well hydrated in the days leading up to your treatment. Drinking plenty of water and maintaining healthy skin hydration can help support the treatment process.
- Please arrive with clean skin free from makeup, fake tan, heavy skincare, oils, deodorant or SPF on the treatment area.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning or sunburn for at least 48 hours before your appointment, as irritated skin can become more sensitive during treatment.
- If you bleach the hair in the treatment area, allow enough regrowth before your appointment so the hair can be clearly seen and treated effectively.
- Do not wax, tweeze, thread or use hair removal creams between appointments — the hair follicle must be intact for electrolysis to work properly. Shaving is completely fine.
- If you are using active skincare products such as retinoids, tretinoin, Roaccutane, vitamin C or exfoliating acids, discontinue use at least 3 days prior to minimise skin sensitivity.
Pain Management
Electrolysis can feel different for everyone depending on the treatment area and individual sensitivity.
If desired, you may apply a numbing cream before your appointment following the product instructions carefully. Some clients also choose to take a mild pain relief tablet beforehand if suitable for them.
Avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol before treatment, as these can sometimes increase skin sensitivity.
Important Information
Please inform us of any medical conditions, medications, hormonal conditions such as PCOS, recent skin treatments, or anything else that may affect your treatment plan or healing process.
Consistency is important with electrolysis. Multiple sessions are required as hair grows in different cycles, and regular appointments give the best long-term results.
After Your Treatment
It is completely normal for the skin to appear slightly pink, warm or swollen after electrolysis treatment. Some areas may also develop small temporary scabs as part of the natural healing process.
- Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily for the first 24 hours.
- You may gently soothe the area with aloe vera gel, witch hazel or a recommended post-treatment product such as Stratamed if needed.
- Avoid rubbing, scratching or picking at the skin, including any small scabs that may form. Allow the area to heal naturally.
For the first 24–48 hours, avoid:
- Heavy exercise or excessive sweating
- Saunas, steam rooms and hot baths
- Swimming pools and chlorinated water
- Applying active skincare or perfumes to the area
- Direct sun exposure — wear SPF if going outdoors
Hair Removal Between Appointments
Please avoid waxing, tweezing, threading or using depilatory creams between treatments as this disrupts the hair growth cycle being targeted.
Shaving or trimming is perfectly fine between appointments.
What to Expect
Temporary redness and mild swelling are common immediately after treatment and usually settle within hours to a few days.
Small scabs can occasionally occur and are a normal part of healing — leave them alone and allow them to fall away naturally.
Electrolysis is a gradual process that permanently treats hairs over time. Patience and consistency are key to achieving long-term clearance.
