The treatment

Permanent results.
Genuine care.

Real treatment. Real results. Every client receives personalised care in a calm, considered environment.

The method

What is electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only method of permanent hair removal. A fine probe is gently inserted into each hair follicle, delivering a small electrical current that destroys the follicle responsible for hair growth.

Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis works on all skin tones and all hair colours — including blonde, grey, red and hormonal hair that laser often cannot effectively treat.

Electrolysis can be performed on almost all areas of the face and body and is suited to clients seeking precise, permanent results.

Common questions

Things people often ask.

Electrolysis is not painless, but most clients find it tolerable. It can feel like a quick heat, sting or sharp tingling sensation as each follicle is treated.

Discomfort varies depending on the area, your pain threshold, skin sensitivity and hormones. At Hills Electrolysis, we mainly use the blend method, which combines thermolysis and galvanic current for effective follicle treatment.

Numbing cream may be used if needed, especially for more sensitive areas.

Multiple sessions are needed because hair grows in cycles, and not all follicles are active at the same time.

The number of sessions depends on the area, hair density, hormones, previous hair removal methods and how consistent you are with appointments.

A personalised treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

Electrolysis can treat most areas of the face and body, including the upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, neck, eyebrows, underarms, arms, stomach, bikini line, legs, back and chest.

It works on all skin types and all hair colours, including blonde, grey, white, red and fine hairs. It is also suitable for hormonal hair growth, PCOS-related growth and hair stimulated by laser.

Laser targets pigment in the hair, so it works best on darker hair and is not suitable for all hair colours or skin types.

Laser may also not be recommended for hormonal areas such as the face, neck, upper arms and stomach, as it can sometimes trigger paradoxical hypertrichosis, where fine peach-fuzz hair becomes thicker, darker terminal hair.

Electrolysis treats the follicle directly using a fine probe and electrical current. At Hills Electrolysis, we mainly use the blend method, which combines thermolysis and galvanic current.

This means electrolysis can treat all hair colours and all skin types, and is considered permanent hair removal.

Please allow the hair to grow to around 3–4mm long before your appointment so it can be treated properly.

Do not wax, tweeze, thread or use hair removal creams before treatment. Shaving or trimming is fine, as long as the hair is long enough on the day.

Please arrive with clean skin and avoid makeup, moisturiser, fake tan or heavy skincare on the treatment area. Avoid caffeine beforehand if you are sensitive, as it may increase discomfort.

Yes. Electrolysis permanently destroys treated hair follicles so they can no longer grow hair.

Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are needed to treat all active follicles over time.

Yes. Shaving or trimming is fine between appointments. Please avoid waxing, tweezing or threading, as the hair needs to stay connected to the follicle for electrolysis to treat it properly.

Yes. Electrolysis works on all hair colours because it treats the follicle directly, not the pigment in the hair. This makes it suitable for blonde, grey, white, red and fine hairs that laser may not be able to target.

Yes. Electrolysis can treat hormonal facial hair, including hair growth related to PCOS. Hormonal hair growth may require ongoing treatment over time, as new hairs can continue to appear due to internal hormonal changes.

Yes. Electrolysis is suitable for hair growth that has been stimulated by laser, including paradoxical hypertrichosis. A treatment plan can be discussed during consultation once the area has been assessed.

Some redness, warmth or slight swelling is normal after electrolysis and usually settles within a few hours. Sensitive areas may take a little longer. Aftercare will be provided to help the skin heal properly.

It is best to avoid makeup on the treated area for at least 24 hours, especially on the face. This helps reduce the risk of irritation or bacteria entering the freshly treated follicles.
